Tragedy struck the sport last Saturday in Mexico, when welterweight prospect Omar Chavez stopped Marco Nazareth in four rounds. After the fight was over, Nazareth felt dizzy and then passed out. He was rushed from the ring on a stretcher and taken to the hospital where he laid in a coma until his body began to fail and he passed away on Wednesday morning.

There was a memorial held on Thursday in Mexico. Family membes and hundreds of fans came by to pay their respects. Omar and his legenday father, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, want to attend the burial but there are concerns over possible conflicts. Omar is pretty broken up and nobody knows how it will affect his career and mental state in the ring.

"I am very sad about with happened. There are things in the ring that one never intends to do to one his opponents, but boxing is a sport with a lot of risk.  This was an accident. As a person this affects me. I feel very badly. I always wanted to be a boxer, and my life should continue ahead," Omar told ESTO.

The fight with Nazareth had a lot of action. Omar battered him with big punches but Nazareth continued to fight back until the very end.

"When I hit him I hurt him, but never I thought things would reach this kind of level.  As I'v said, one never thinks about taking the life of his opponent.  Nazareth carried with a lot of courage, and my respects go to him and his family. He always said that he was going to give his all in the ring and he gave it," Omar said.

"When I arrived at the hotel, I was informed the grave nature of the situation and I went to see him in the hospital. There I spoke with his mother and father.  My dad and intended to go to the burial. I will rest for a while due to the recent events and then I will return to the gym."
