What a performance by 25-year-old Avni Yildirim! The fast rising Turkish superstar needed only three rounds to impressively stop #7 ranked Schiller Hyppolite and win the vacant WBC Silver International Super middleweight Championship.
Before the fight Schiller had vowed to make Avni his "toy" but Yildirim ended up playing cat and mouse with the Canadian.
The young Turk clearly dominated the first round stunning Hyppolite with some hard hooks. In round two, Schiller managed to stay out of trouble with good footwork and head movement and landed some nice counterpunches of his own but Yildirim wasn't impressed at all with the Canadian's uppercuts and walked right through them.
The end came in round three when Yildirim battered the Canadian with furious combinations. Schiller tried to somehow survive the attacks but found no place to hide because the Turk cut off the ring very well. Hyppolite went down and was obviously hurt.
He somehow managed to break the count but was on shaky legs leaving referee Daniel Van de Wiele no other chance but to waive it off after 2:44 minutes of the third round.
With this impressive win, Yildirim who was ranked on #4 in the WBC ratings will get in reach of a world title shot although the super middleweight division is very busy at the moment.
WBC World Champion Badou Jack will unify belts with IBF titlist James DeGale on January 14th. The winner of that bout will face a mandatory defense against WBC Silver Champ Callum Smith. However, at age 25 and with only 14 pro fights in his record (14 wins, 9 KOs) Avni Yildirim has a great future ahead of him and will surely get a well deserved world title shot sooner or later.
