Former WBA world bantamweight champion Julian Solis was shot on Sunday in a suburb of San Juan, which is located in the capital of his own country, Puerto Rico, and is now in recovery and out of danger in a local hospital. According to Puerto Rican police, Solis, 53, was wounded by several bullets fired by unidentified individuals after an argument.

The shooting killed the son of former boxer, Malvin Solis Garcia, 32 years. It just so happens that the dead youth was also the nephew of Jesus Santos Solis, a former boxer, was also was killed at age 53 in San Juan in March 2007.

Julian Solis was the world champion in the bantamweight division, winning the WBA title in 1980 when he defeating Jorge Lujan of Panama on 15-round split decision. He then lost the belt in his first defense against Jeff Chandler, and again tried to be crowned, without success, in July 1981.
