Jorge Masvidal wants to pair his prolific gab with a jab.
The 36-year-old Miami-based mixed martial artist Masvidal is the latest UFC star looking to try his hand at stopping boxing novices Jake and Logan Paul.
"I'm gonna beat up all the Pauls. If they put money in my pocket, that Logan Paul dude, Jake Paul, whoever Paul dudes -- if they put money in my pocket, of course I'd like to break some Disney characters' faces. I've been fighting men who have been training since 7, 8 years old to do the same thing to me what I want to do to them. Fighting guys like [the Pauls] is a bonus, man,” Masvidal told ESPN’s Marc Raimondi.
"Who the f--- is this Paul kid? He thinks we're friends, because I gave him some advice in the Ben Askren fight. Get the f--- out of here, bro. I'll slap you and whoever the f--- you want, bro. I'm a fighter. Of course you're gonna get offended."
Masvidal and Jake Paul had been exchanging unpleasantries leading up to Paul’s split decision win over Tyron Woodley in August.
"I would love to fight Masvidal," Paul said during Woodley fight week. "I think it could very, very much so happen … [Masvidal] is kind of an airhead. Let's be honest. Masvidal is not smart. Does anyone here listen to a Masvidal interview and go, 'Wow that guy is intellectual and he's a smart guy and the way he talks, he's very well spoken.' He's a street fighter, gangster who got knocked the f---- out in his last fight, so maybe he's losing a few brain cells.
"One moment, he's my friend. Texted me like saying, 'Yo, let's train. Yo, let's do a video together. Yo, can you come to my bakery down the street, I want to do a little thing with you.' And then, oh snap, all of a sudden he wants to switch up. Cool. That's not how I was raised. Not here in Ohio. If I'm your friend, I'm your friend."
Masvidal experienced a massive breakthrough in 2019 during a three-fight winning streak over Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz.
Masvidal’s flying-knee KO over Askren at five seconds was the fastest knockout in UFC history. Masvidal’s TKO win over Diaz led to him winning the “Baddest Motherf-----” belt.
During the winning stretch, Masvidal gained a cult-like following that landed him on the cover of the UFC 4 video game. However, back-to-back losses against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman have derailed his ascent.
“Gamebred” Masvidal (35-15) is under contract with the UFC and has been fighting for the promotion since 2013. Should a fight with the Paul brothers prove to be serious, he’d need approval from UFC president Dana White.
"UFC would have to sign off, but nothing is impossible," Masvidal said. "Dana doesn't like those guys and Dana knows I'll go in there and put a hurting on those kids. Maybe he does send in the f------- assassin."
