Heavyweight veteran Jameel McCline (41-12-3, 24 KOs) suffered a ten round unanimous decision loss at the Atlas Arena in Lodz. He took on up and coming Polish prospect Artur Szpilka (12-0, 9 KOs). McCline has no issue with the outcome, praising the young prospect for putting on a good, smart fight. McCline feels that it might be the end of the road for his comeback run.
After getting stopped by Chris Arreola in 2009, the 42-year-old boxer returned to the ring after taking more than two years off. Last February he was upset over eight rounds by 17-23 Harold Sconiers and then he barely won a split decision over 16-11 Livin Castillo in March.
"I'm a 42-year-old man and I had a lot of fun trying to come back but this is it for me. I had a lot of fun, I can't complain. I had a lot of fun. I'm very proud of the effort that we put forth as a team and we'll just see what's next. Life doesn't end for me because boxing is over. I'm a very smart guy and I have a lot of other things outside of boxing and I will pursue some other opportunities," McCline said.
"It would be silly for me to think that I can continue. If I had won tonight then yes, then I could still say that I'm chasing that dream. But, you know, I'm pretty well off financially. I didn't come back to boxing for money. I came back because I love the sport. But I'm also not stupid and I know when it's time to go and it may be time to go."
