Former WBO heavyweight champion Ray Mercer, recently spoke with touchgloves regarding a his June 16 MMA bout against popular "internet street fighter" Kimbo Slice. The fight is slated to take place at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall as part of Cage Fury Fighting Championship 5.
The financial compensation for the bout has set the stage for a knockout ending. Both fighters will earn $50,000, but the winner will receive an additional $25,000. An extra $10,000 will be paid to the winner if he wins by knockout.
Mercer knows Kimbo is a street fighter, but he noted during the interview that he also had some street fights of his own. According to Mercer, the difference will be his experience as an Olympic Gold Medal winner and a pro boxer that won a championship.
"He's a street fighter. I've had some street fights of my own, where you come in hard, throwing hooks, throwing punches that don't even have a name. I feel as a professional boxer, an Olympic Gold Medalist, and former World Champion, that I can adjust to whatever I need to do. I have good people in my corner. I'm going to have everything I need to get in there and win. I took the fight because I think I can win'" Mercer said.
Mercer says that the weakest link in Kimbo's game is the inability to box. Mercer has already predicted a first round knockout in a previous interview with the Atlantic City Press, but this time around he said that it's a safe bet to predict the fight ending with a KO, because either he or Kimbo will stopped.
"He doesn't know how to box. That's what I think his biggest weakness is, he doesn't know how to box. Either he goes or I go. Thats the way I think its going to be. I'll be prepared for anything," Mercer said.
