Heavyweight Alexander Povetkin won’t have his first fight in the USA this year. His bout against Damon Reed scheduled for October 16 is cancelled. However the Russian boxer will get to fight for the interim IBF title, possibly with Eddie Chambers. That way  the two mandatory contenders for the both belts belonging to Wladimir Klitschko (IBF and WBO) could have a rematch. Last year Povetkin beat Chambers, winning on the scorecards.

Povetkin’s manager Vladimir Hryunov confirmed this information in the interview to “Sovetsky Sport”.

“The bout with Reed was cancelled, but only because IBF gave Alexander the opportunity to fight for the interim title, as Klitschko refuses to step into the ring with him, - explained Hryunov. – "This fight will take place at the beginning of the next year. We’ve already started the negotiations with the second boxer in IBF rating Eddie Chambers”.
