Junior lightweight Mark Magsayo hopes to one day become a three-division titleholder. But first, he has an eliminator bout, he hopes.

Magsayo’s team is awaiting word on the negotiations for a WBC junior lightweight eliminator bout against Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez.

Magsayo, 27-2 (18 KOs), is promoted by MP Promotions, which is headed by former multi-division titleholder Manny Pacquiao. Magsayo is a former WBC featherweight titleholder.

“My promoter and my team are already negotiating the fight,” Magsayo told BoxingScene. “We are waiting for a meeting, which is coming on April 15. I hope we can accept the offer and fight this July."

Magsayo, a 29-year-old Filipino fighter now based in Las Vegas, Nevada, has had some highs and lows in the past few years. He is riding a three-fight win streak, as he knocked out Bryan Mercado in December. This comes after a two-fight losing streak that marked the only two losses of his pro career. Before that, he beat Gary Russell Jnr to win the WBC title. Now, Magsayo hopes to win a title again by the end of 2025.

“By the end of the year, we will be fighting in a world title fight, if I win the title eliminator,” Magsayo said. “I hope I can win this fight and then win a world title fight.”

Hernandez, 37-2 (32 KOs), is on a three-fight win streak since his loss to O’Shaquie Foster in a WBC junior lightweight title bout. Hernandez, a 27-year-old from Mexico City, Mexico, returned in February, winning a unanimous decision over Rene Tellez Giron.

Magsayo is ranked highly in the junior lightweight rankings, holding a No. 2 ranking in the WBC and WBO. Magsayo is also ranked No. 5 by the IBF in the lightweight rankings.

“My promoter and team are talking, and after I win a world title fight at 130lbs, we will move up to 135lbs,” Magsayo said. “We will campaign there. The goal is to be a three-division world champion.”

The plan is similar to Pacquiao, his promoter, who effortlessly moved up the weight classes. Magsayo referenced Pacquiao as his mentor and stated that he will continue to move up in weight. As for the fight, Magsayo likes the idea of the match-up with Hernandez, stating: “He comes forward and me too,” Magsayo said. “It should work to my style.”
