Former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis was asked for his opinion about the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali. In the opinion of Lewis, the better brother is Vitali, even though Wladimir is the more technically skilled of the two. Lewis is critical of Wladimir's fighting style and believes the younger brother fights in a certain manner to protect what is possibly a weak chin. Wladimir has been stopped three times in his career.
"I think that Wladimir believes [his chin is too weak]. That's why he's defensive, he protects his chin. He still has the rainfall of his previous fights in the back of the head. Instead of answering [David] Haye's punches with his own, or to do any infighting, he would just hold. Vitali's boxing [style makes you] uncomfortable. He is tall and uses his reach well. He throws good combinations and knows how to get his opponent off balance. Vitali is definitely the better [brother]," Lewis said.
Lewis fought, and stopped, Vitali in six rounds in 2003. The fight was stopped on cuts. If he was still an active fighter, he would expect to do a similar job on Wladimir.
"I am a more complete boxer than Wladimir. In most of his fights, he proposes very little. I have much more in my repertoire. I work to the body, I get close to my opponent and throw uppercuts. Against Haye he showed no infighting, and only grabbed. And I saw no punches to the body. I can break the will of my opponent in the ring and I think a little faster. Wladimir I would have knocked out - probably in the middle rounds," Lewis said.
