Josh Taylor will have a new coach in his corner.
The WBO champion has parted ways with Ben Davison and announced that Joe McNally will be his new head trainer.
Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) made the move official on social media this week, posting a picture of himself and McNally with the caption: “It’s a pleasure to officially announce that I’ve teamed up with and gonna be working with Joe McNally moving forward. I’m excited for this new chapter in my career and producing more great nights ahead.”
McNally has guided the careers of Liam Smith and David Price, among others.
“The Tartan Tornado” Taylor formed a union with Davison in 2020 and became the undisputed super lightweight champion when he bested Jose Ramirez in 2021.
Together, they enjoyed a 3-0 record.
Preceding Davison as Taylor’s trainer was Shane McGuigan.
The 31-year-old Taylor survived deep waters in his last fight, a controversial split decision win against mandatory challenger Jack Catterall in February.
In the following months, Taylor vacated his WBC, WBA, and IBF titles.
The Scottish southpaw has made it clear, however, that he wants to face Catterall again in a rematch to eliminate any doubts about his victory.
Catterall outlanded Taylor 120 to 73 in their 12-round fight and was the busier fighter by throwing 219 more punches.
The judges, however, awarded Taylor with scores of 114-111 and 113-112, while the other judge had it 113-112 for Catterall.
