Jesus Ramos has yet to see the 7th round of any given fight, though his latest ring appearance gave him the chance to try out a new weight division.

A 2nd round stoppage of Jesus Emilio Bojorquez marked what could be the start of a welterweight campaign for the 19-year-old southpaw. Saturday’s Fox televised bout saw Ramos weigh a career-heavy 146 ¾ pounds, though wearing the weight well as he closed the show in style at Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

“I felt good [on Saturday]. I guess this was a test run and it went well,” Ramos told BoxingScene.com after picking up his fifth consecutive knockout win. “The weight cut was a lot smoother this time around.

“I might stick around at this weight.”

Ramos was primarily campaigning as a junior welterweight, where he planned to win his first major title. That goal could still be in place, though the more likely scenario for the still-growing teenager from Casa Grande, Arizona is to now chase that same dream one division north. Already on his mind is a showdown with Yordenis Ugas, who beat his uncle Abel Ramos for a welterweight title last September at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Sept. 2020 Fox card also saw the younger Ramos score a 2nd round knockout of unbeaten Esteban Garcia in a supporting bout. Saturday’s win over Bojorquez (24-3, 18KOs) was Ramos’ third straight on Fox prime, following several FS1 undercard appearances.

An active campaign is hoped for in 2021, with each fight representing a step up in class before focusing on fights like Ugas by the time he turns 21 next year.

“I would next like to fight guys like [former title challenger] Ryan Karl and [former lightweight titlist and current gatekeeper] Antonio DeMarco,” notes Ramos. “I want experienced guys like that who can help get me to that top level.”
