Eddie Hearn, promoter of British heavyweight star Anthony Joshua, fully backs his fighter's decision to appoint Angel Fernandez as head trainer.

Joshua recently revealed that Fernandez - previously the boxer's assistant trainer - was elevated to the position of head trainer.

Joshua was trained for his entire career by veteran coach Robert McCracken.

Following last year's twelve round decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua traveled over to the United States and was spotted in the company of several high profile trainers.

Hearn explained that Joshua is now in a good position in camp.

“I’m sure there will be some other faces in the camp as well. He’s working well with Angel in Loughborough. Angel’s been a big part of the team for quite a few fights, it’s really about AJ being comfortable and happy, and he is in that position," Hearn told IFL TV.

Joshua initially added Fernandez to his team in 2019, to prepare for the rematch with Andy Ruiz.

“I’m working with Angel Fernandez right now. In London and he's been in my camp for the last three years anyway. He’s been at the last three of my world championship fights," Joshua told Behind The Gloves.

After Joshua suffered his most recent loss, he exercised his contractual right to an immediate rematch.

But, the second fight with Usyk is now up in the air.

The unbeaten WBO, IBO, WBA, IBF world champion traveled back to his home country of Ukraine, which is currently under attack by Russia. Usyk has vowed to remain in his country, assisting with the defense, until the conflict has been resolved.

If the war plays out for an extended period of time, Joshua may be forced to take an interim fight in order to stay active.
