Tomorrow British heavyweight Frazer Clarke, 8-1-1 (6), fights for the first time since his unbeaten record went up in smoke in a one-round defeat to Fabio Wardley in October. He will be up against Ghana’s Ebenezer Tetteh, in a fight scheduled for 10 rounds, and knows that he must do more than just win – he needs to impress.

This afternoon Clarke weighed 19st 10lbs, which makes him five pounds heavier than he was the night he fought Wardley in Saudi Arabia, but there is no doubting his focus and commitment. With injuries healed, and wounds licked, he is ready to return to the ring and convince both himself and others that the defeat to Wardley was just a momentary blip; a freak shot and a freak result.

“I’m back,” Clarke said after weighing in on Saturday. “I was injured, yeah, that lasted for a minute, but now I’m back in the gym and firing on all cylinders. I’m confident, I’m hungry, and I just want to get in there and do the business now. All the talking’s done. It’s time to get in there and do my job.

“It’s not usually an early night when you fight this man [Tetteh], but let’s have it right: I need to blast this man out of there. I need to sort him out well and truly. I need to put on a performance and then take him out.”

Tetteh, a 36-year-old from Ghana best known for losing inside a round against Daniel Dubois and then getting stopped inside seven by Dillian Whyte, has a record of 23-2 (20) and seems the ideal opponent for Clarke at this crucial stage in his professional career.
