Appearance-wise, Dzmitry Asanau is more than ready for what figures to be his toughest test to date.
The two-time Olympian for Belarus was comfortably inside the lightweight limit, as was Francesco Patera for their scheduled ten-round contest. Asanau registered at 134.6lbs. during Wednesday’s official pre-fight weigh-in, while Belgium’s Patera was a fit-and-trim 134.1lbs.
The two will meet this Thursday atop an ESPN+ stream (6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT) from Casino du Montreal in Montreal, Canada.
Asanau, 9-0 (4 KOs), previously relocated from Belarus to Dubai but is now based in Montreal, where he fights for the third straight time—all at this venue—under Eye of the Tiger Management. The 28-year-old lightweight prospect is coming off a fifth-round knockout of Argentina’s Marias Carlos Rueda last November 7 in his first scheduled ten-rounder.
Patera, 30-5 (11 KOs), fights for the first time in Canada and second overall appearance in North America. The 31-year-old gatekeeper was shut out by Keyshawn Davis—now a WBO lightweight titlist—in a July 2023 meeting in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He has since won two of his last three starts, the lone defeat during that stretch a narrow points loss to Ireland’s Gary Cully last May 25 in Leeds, England.
The show’s lone major title fight pits 40-year-young WBA junior middleweight beltholder Mary Spencer, 9-2 (6 KOs), in her first defense against Venezuela’s Ogleidis Suarez, 31-5-1 (15 KOs).
Spencer, a 2012 Olympian for Canada, weighed 153.8 pounds. Suarez, 37, was 153 pounds in her third bid at a major title.
