Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) has now passed his third consecutive anti-doping test with a negative result for clenbuterol.

Eric Gomez, President of Golden Boy Promotions, confirmed to ESPN Deportes that Canelo had been negative in a third anti-doping test conducted on March 9 by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency.

In addition, he also came up negative for any banned substances on March 2 and March 5.

The tests were taken in connection to the random drug testing protocol for Canelo's upcoming rematch against IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

The second fight is scheduled for March 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Controversy recently erupted when it was revealed that Canelo had come up positive for traces of clenbuteral in drug tests that were taken on February 17 and 20.

Gomez believes the three negative tests are solid evidence that Canelo's positive readings were due to the consumption of contaminated meat.

The new information will be integrated into the research being carried out by the Nevada Athletic Commission - who are reviewing all of the evidence to make an official ruling on the rematch - which almost everyone expects to move forward without any problems.

While the investigation continues its course, the fighters continue with their camps on Californian soil. The team behind Golovkin are simply awaiting for the official notification from the Nevada Commission and the Mexican boxer is waiting on the same.

Golovkin will celebrate the fourth week of camp in Big Bear, California, where sparring sessions are under the supervision of coach Abel Sánchez, while Canelo is in his second week in San Diego, where he works alongside Eddy and Chepo Reynoso.

According to representatives of international organizations such as the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Association, everything points to a contamination of clenbuterol by meat consumption; however, the final decision will come the Nevada Commission.

Canelo has undergone anti-doping tests in at least his last 12 fights and until this past February all of his tests had come up clean.
