Cameron Vuong finally put an end to his feud with Jordan Flynn after two postponed bouts.
The pair met at the third time of asking at Planet Ice in Altrincham, UK, on Friday with Vuong taking Flynn apart in seven rounds. Flynn bravely fought on after taking heavy punishment, but the referee Howard Foster had seen enough and waved the contest off at 1.08 of Round 7.
Vuong, now 8-0 (4 KOs), came out for the first round looking to take center ring behind a long, stiff jab. Flynn, however, did not let the 22 year old have it all his own way, and fought back aggressively in the hope of asserting himself early.
Flynn, now 11-1-1 (1 KO), elected to come in from low in the second to avoid the taller Vuong’s long jab but he had only limited success. He was wild with his shots once he came into range, and in the third he paid the price for it. A sharp right hand from Vuong caught Flynn, 28, on the top of the head as he came in low and forced Flynn to touch the canvas briefly.
Referee Foster rightfully ruled the incident a knockdown, much to Flynn’s displeasement. Bolstered by his success in the previous round, Vuong started the fourth with an air of confidence about his work. The youngster stabbed his jab into Flynn’s face as he attempted to close the distance, and followed it up with the occasional uppercut.
With a healthy lead to hand, Vuong elected to allow Flynn the center ring in the fifth. The young Vuong slipped the oncoming attacks well and delivered sharp counters that brought a cheer from the growing Altrincham crowd.
Vuong brought the fight to Flynn in the sixth, pushing Flynn back into the corner and piling a right hand into his face. Flynn was visibly hurt by the shot and took a step back to recover, however, Vuong did not allow his opponent time to breathe.
Vuong smashed in another right hand and this time it looked as though Flynn was on his way down to take a knee, but a left uppercut from Vuong caused Flynn to shoot up in the air. Flynn held on for dear life and was thankful to hear the bell moments later.
Vuong sensed that it was time to take Flynn out and took his opportunity early into the seventh. He again caught Flynn with a right hand that forced the hurt fighter to retreat to the ropes. Flynn stuck his tongue out to Vuong as he sat waiting for the next attack.
Vuong did not take too kindly to Flynn’s antics and fired in another right followed by a left uppercut that lifted Flynn off his feet and referee Foster had seen enough, and jumped in to spare Flynn any further punishment.
