In one of the stranger moments in the sport, Kell Brook was forced to change his gloves once he entered the ring for his long-awaited fight with Amir Khan, which took place on Saturday night at Manchester Arena.
Prior to the start of the fight, a backstage dispute broke out over the agreed-upon brand of gloves.
Once Brook entered the ring, he was strongly advised to change his gloves.
According to Brook, his purse would have been withheld unless he agreed to swap out his gloves.
"I had to put different gloves on in the ring. [Khan] said he wasn't happy with my gloves. In the final moment in the ring, they said they wouldn't pay me unless I put new gloves on," Brook said.
The gloves made little difference in the fight.
Brook rocked Khan in the very first round and continued to punish him with hard power shots throughout the contest.
The end finally came in the sixth round, when the referee stepped in to prevent Khan from taking further punishment.
There is an immediate rematch clause in Khan's favor - but it's highly unlikely the Bolton boxer will exercise that option.
After a ten-year rivalry, Brook has little interest in facing Khan for a second time.
“I’ve sacrificed so much time to train for this fight, they won’t remember all of my fights they’ll just remember me fighting Amir Khan," Brook said.
"No disrespect to Amir, but it felt so easy in there, I’m happy the chapter has closed on Amir Khan now. This is the icing on the cake in my career, I can feel at peace knowing I’ve beaten him. Do I want to carry on? I’m going to sit down with my family and consider my future in the sport."
