Mexico's Antonio Margarito is confident. He says despite the serious orbital bone injury he received a year ago with Manny Pacquiao, he will defeat Miguel Cotto on the 3rd of December in New York and become the new WBA junior middleweight champion.
"We'll be fine. I am confident that I will win again and we'll get ready for Dec. 3. As you know I'm always in the gym. Now I thank God I'm fully healed and the doctor has been checking all the time," said Margarito to BoxingScene.com.
Margarito gave Cotto his first defeat as a pro in 2008, when he stopped the Puerto Rican boxer in the eleventh round.
"I think I'll do something similar to the first fight by coming forward and applying pressure. I know that Cotto has another trainer, Emanuel Steward. I just hope he arrives in excellent condition so there won't be any doubt," he added.
The "Tijuana Tornado" want to prove that he never used any illegal bandages in the win against Cotto. In 2009, Margarito lost his license to box after illegal handwraps were discovered prior to a fight with Shane Mosley in January of the same year.
"I never used that with any fighter. Cotto had mentioned that I used something illegal because [after the fight] my hands were seen camera and the dressing was a little red. I do not know if he thought it was blood, but I think he knows that the gloves were faded. Actually everything is clean and I have not fought anyone with anything illegal. I really wouldn't. The outcome will be the same," Margarito said.
