The handlers for former undisputed cruiserweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk expect their boxer to get a world title shot at Anthony Joshua in 2020.
At the moment, Usyk will take part in the second heavyweight fight of his career when he takes on Derek Chisora on May 23 at the O2 Arena in London.
Usyk is the WBO's mandatory challenger - a position he was granted when he moved up in weight from cruiserweight.
Joshua will first make a mandatory defense, when he stakes his IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world titles against Kubrat Pulev on June 20th in London.
There has been plenty of talk about Joshua facing WBC champion Tyson Fury at the end of the year - should Fury beat Deontay Wilder in July.
Usyk's manager, Egis Klimas, says that fight can't happen because Joshua must make the WBO mandatory next.
"They can't. How can they do that? Right now, we have to win [against Chisora], then after the mandatory fight for the WBO has to happen. I believe Anthony also wants this fight. Good fighters want to fight good fighters. Anthony sees a good challenge in Oleksandr and wants to go there. Everybody says Oleksandr will give Anthony problems, but Anthony believes the opposite so wants to show that he is stronger," Klimas told Sky Sports.
"In the UK would make sense - it wouldn't make sense to go to the States with one boxer from the UK and one from Ukraine. The UK fans know Usyk."
Of course Usyk's shot would fall in the bin - if he is upset by Chisora.
Usyk insisted on a tough fight and he wanted to stay busy, as his last fight took place in October of 2019 - and that was his only fight of the year.
"We didn't want to wait for a long time, Oleksandr wants to be in the ring to get busy," said Klimas. "It would be a big problem to not box for a long time."
