HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – One of the major storylines surrounding the clash between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia is the 136-pound catchweight that was contracted for the bout, and that neither fighter can exceed 146 pounds during the Saturday morning weigh-in.

Before both fighters prepared to square off at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Showtime pay per view, Davis flexed his A-side muscle and made sure that the larger Garcia didn’t balloon to the point where he could potentially be physically dominated.

Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs), who preferred to fight at 140 pounds, said that Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) does not have any integrity for weight draining him and added that Davis doesn’t want him to be at his best.

Garcia last fought at 135 pounds in January 2021 when he knocked out Luke Campbell. His two bouts thereafter took place at the super lightweight limit.

Vasiliy Lomachenko knows very well what it’s like to fight foes who are bigger than him. As the three-division champion has navigated 135 pounds, he’s consistently been met with larger opponents, and will again when he meets Devin Haney on May 20 for the undisputed lightweight title.

Lomachenko believes the odds are favorably tilted toward Tank due to the weight clause.

“It is one more thing why Gervonta Davis can beat him. I think Ryan Garcia is very big for 135," Lomachenko said in an interview with BoxingScene.com and other reporters.

Lomachenko also alluded that Garcia can be predictable with his offense.

"Everybody knows that Ryan Garcia can make only one shot. It's a left hook. That's it. So I think [Davis'] team and [Gervonta] will prepare for this."

During the pre-fight buildup, Davis has insisted that the only weapon Garcia has in his arsenal is a left hook and that he is not a complete fighter.
