Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York - Former world title challenger Thomas Dulorme had an easy night of work against gutsy but outgunned Brian Jones, stopping the Texan in the sixth round of an eight-round welterweight bout.
From the start, Delorme was free to fire at will against Jones, who provided little offense to hold off the Puerto Rican favorite, with Delorme nearly scoring a stoppage early on after the ringside physician checked Jones out after the third round.
Jones was given the green light to continue, but kept getting punished by legal and illegal means, with Dulorme losing a point for a low blow in the fifth round. It ultimately didn't matter, as referee Shada Murdaugh opted to stop the bout at the 1:49 mark of round six.
Dulorme moves to 24-2 with 16 KOs; Jones falls to 13-7 with 7 KOs.
Brooklyn heavyweight Adam Kownacki had his usual vocal contingent of fans on hand for his bout against North Carolina?s Joshua Tufte, and he didn't disappoint, stopping Tufte in the second round.
The two came out trading punches at the opening bell, but Kownacki won the exchanges with a nice mix of punches to the body and head. One of the shots opened up a nasty cut over Tufte?'s left eye that prompted a visit from the ringside physician.
It didn't get any better for Tufte in the second, and once Kownacki caught him in the corner and unleashed a series of unanswered shots, referee Arthur Mercante Jr. stopped the bout. The time of the finish was 2:40.
With the win, Kownacki moves to 15-0 with 12 KOs; Tufte falls to 19-2 with 10 KOs.
Unbeaten local welterweights Noel Murphy and Maxito Sainvil put on an entertaining six-rounder, with Woodlawn's Murphy scoring a unanimous decision win over Nyack's Sainvil that was a lot closer than the 60-54 (twice) and 59-55 scores would indicate.
In command early, Murphy saw Sainvil roar back in the middle two rounds, only to regain control late to seal the victory and his eighth pro win. Sainvil falls to 4-1-1 with 2 KOs.
Debuting Staten Islander Kenny Robles probably got hit more than he wanted to in his fight against Roanoke's Latorie Woodberry, but he got the win and probably has a future as a crowd-pleasing action fighter, as he nabbed a four-round unanimous decision in the welterweight opener.
Scores were 40-36 and 39-37 twice for Robles, now 1-0. Woodberry, who gave a game effort throughout, didn't fight like someone who left the ring with a 1-3-1 record.
