Hall of Famer and former world champion Nigel Benn, has no issue with his son, undefeated welterweight contender Conor Benn, facing the much bigger Chris Eubank Jr. at a catchweight.
Several UK outlets are reporting that a Benn vs. Eubank Jr. encounter is being negotiated for the month of October in London.
According to reports, Benn would have to move up to a catch-weight of 156-pounds for the bout. Eubank has competed as high as the super middleweight limit of 168.
Their famous fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr. -traded punches in two historic fights for British boxing. Eubank Sr. won the first encounter in 1990, with draw verdict in their rematch three years later.
There are many observers who believe Conor Benn is taking too big of a risk by facing the much bigger Eubank Jr. - but his father Nigel is not one of those observers.
"I have no fears about Conor going in with Eubank's lad. In fact I welcome it. I know the old adage of a good big 'un beating a good little 'un but that's an old-fashioned view," Nigel Benn told The Sun.
"I moved up from middleweight and won a super-middleweight world title and Chris Jr's dad did the same. Manny Pacquiao became a world champion in eight weight divisions from flyweight to welterweight, and Canelo Alvarez started out at welterweight and was world light-heavyweight champion. So Conor has my full support because I know if they do meet he's more than capable of beating Eubank’s boy."
Eubank Jr. was in action back in February with a decision win over Liam Williams at middleweight. Two months later, Benn returned to the ring with a stoppage win over welterweight veteran Chris Van Heerden.
