Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has given his take on the escalating drama between the UFC and some of their top fighters.

The dispute first began when UFC champion Jon Jones was looking for a big purse to move up to the heavyweight division to fight dangerous puncher Francis Ngannou.

According to Jones, the UFC was not willing to give him a bump in pay to take such a risky fight.

UFC President Dana White would then go public as tell reporters that Jones was looking for "Deontay Wilder money" to face Ngannou - a reference to Wilder receiving over $20 million in recent fights.

Jones denied White's claim - stating that he's always been underpaid while the UFC generated tremendous money from his pay-per-view fights.

It wasn't long before another UFC superstar, Jorge Masvidal, began complaining about the amount of money he was being offered to fight again. He said the UFC was offering him an inadequate amount of money to fight champion Kamaru Usman in July. Masvidal explained that he was paid more money for his non-title fight with Nate Diaz.

And the UFC's biggest name, Conor McGregor, recently announced his retirement, which many believe is directly connected to his inability to secure high purse figures while the pandemic is playing out.

Tyson explained that while UFC is getting higher ratings at the moment, their fighters will never make more money than top level boxers - citing McGregor's decision to cross over to boxing in 2017, to earn by far his biggest purse against Floyd Mayweather. 

“Listen to this, UFC is more popular than boxing, right? Higher ratings, right?. But a UFC fighter will never be richer than a first-class fighter. To make a $100 million, Conor McGregor had to fight Floyd Mayweather. Jon Jones got to fight me if he wants to make some super money,” Tyson said to Charlie Mack.
