Former two-division champion Marlon Tapales will make his second consecutive ring appearance in Cambodia on April 14.
The 32-year-old Tapales, 39-4 (20 KOs), will face Jon Jon Jet, 15-1-1 (12 KOs), in a 10-round junior featherweight bout. The fight will take place in Siem Reap, the second largest city in the southeast Asian country.
"I am very happy to be back in Cambodia," said the 32-year-old Tapales of Lanao del Norte province in the Philippines. “The fans gave great support when I fought here for the first time, and I can’t wait to return.”
Tapales, a former WBO bantamweight and IBF/WBA junior featherweight titleholder, is looking to win his third straight since his 10th round knockout loss to Naoya Inoue in December of 2023 for the undisputed 122lbs championship. Tapales remains ranked among the top 4 contenders with the IBF, WBA and WBC.
Jet, 30, of Tangerang, Indonesia is riding a five-fight winning streak since the two blemishes on his record, including a first round stoppage loss to Luke Boyd in Australia back in 2019, followed by a draw against Flasidus Nuno.
"We are very excited to host another event in Cambodia. Thank you to our partners at KKIF for making this possible. Expect a great show featuring Marlon Tapales, Joey Canoy, and a Kun Khmer title fight."
Jim Claude Manangquil, whose Sanman Promotions co-promotes Tapales alongside Knucklehead Boxing, says the fight is “good to keep Marlon active.”
Also on the card, Joey Canoy, 23-5-2 (14 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines will face Minh Phat Sam, 10-5-2 (8 KOs), of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in a ten-round minimumweight fight.
Canoy, 31, is unbeaten in his last eight fights as he seeks his first world title attempt. Canoy is rated in the top 15 by all four major sanctioning bodies at 105lbs, and, at no. 3, is the highest rated contender for the IBF title currently held by his compatriot Pedro Taduran.
Sam, 30, last fought two weeks ago, when he stopped Ne Lin Aung in two rounds in Thailand.
The show will be promoted by Sanman Boxing and Kun Khmer International Fight.
