Tom Loeffler, promoter for IBO, WBA, WBC, IBF middleweight champion champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs), says Chris Eubank Jr. could still be a potential opponent in the future.

Contrary to some of the statements that were made in recent weeks by father/manager Chris Eubank Sr., Loeffler denies that any new discussions have taken place for a future encounter with Eubank Jr.

Golovkin is scheduled to make a mandatory defense of his titles against Daniel Jacobs on March 18th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The fight was in serious negotiations for weeks last summer. The talks fell apart after Eubank Jr. and his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, were unable to reach an agreement on the monetary terms for the fight.

When Eubank Jr. missed a few deadlines to finalize the deal, the fight was swooped up by IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, who moved up by two weight divisions to take the fight - and Golovkin stopped in five rounds last September at the O2 Arena in London.

"No new negotiations are in progress with Eubank Jr," Loeffler exclusively told Sky Sports. "Although we would be open to that fight, as we were last September when Eddie Hearn made the offer."

"Gennady and [his trainer Abel Sanchez] are totally focused on Danny Jacobs, because if he doesn't win that fight, all the plans for other fights go out of the window. They are the two best middleweights fighting against each other, and it is very rare in boxing to get the two best in their division to fight."

Eubank Jr. (23-1) is moving in a new direction for the moment, as he moves up to the super middleweight division next month in a fight with Renold Quinlan for the vacant IBO 168-pound world title. Eubank Jr. denies making a full-time leap to super middleweight and still plans to pursue big fights at 160.
