Controverial Australian trainer and manager Craig Christian is in trouble again, this time he's being probed by the federal police for after Customs officers allegedly discovered more than $180,000 in undeclared cash in his luggage at Perth International Airport on Wednesday. Christian works with numerous fighters, including unbeaten WBA featherweight champ Chris John.
The West Australian reports that customs officials detained him after they allegedly discovered the money as he was about to board a flight to Indonesia. Australian Federal Police seized the money. The money was discovered in a big plastic bag hidden in a towel, concealed in Christmas presents and inside Christian’s hand luggage. He was released by authorities on Christmas Eve. Pursuant to Australian law, a person traveling has to declare amounts greater than $10,000 under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act.
Not the first time Christian has gotten himself in hot water in 2008. In August, Christian was arrested after he tried to board a flight to Sydney and police found a semi-automatic handgun, methylamphetamines and a large amount of cash in his luggage during a routine security check. Christian pled not guilty to the charges.
Christian said "I'm not guilty and I'll prove that in court."
