IBF light flyweight Brian Viloria (26-2, 15 KO’s) will see his dream of fighting undefeated WBO champion Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (33-0-1, 6 KO’s)  of Puerto Rico fulfilled,  according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.

Arum said Viloria will get a chance to fight Calderon not once but twice. He said the first fight likely to take place either in Honolulu, Hawaii or the Philippines with the rematch taking place  in Puerto Rico.

Arum said that “if they split one and one, then the third time they will face each other in Las Vegas.”

Arum  said “Brian’s dream was to fight Calderon and we made that happen.” He indicated their first fight should be in the spring or even as early as March and the second fight later in the year.

Calderon salvaged a controversial sixth round technical  draw in a title defense against Rodel Mayol on June 13 at Madison Square Garden in New York  and in a rematch on September 12 in Puerto Rico eked out a seventh round majority technical decision.

Mayol then went on to win the WBC title with a stunning second round TKO victory over Edgar Sosa although there was some controversy over a head-butt that opened up a nasty cut on Sosa’s left cheek which was later found to have two fractures forcing Sosa to sit out for at least six months..

Before Viloria fights Calderon however, he is scheduled to defend his title against Carlos “El Olimpico” Tamara (20-4, 14 KO’s)  of Colombia at the Cuneta Astrodome in a fight card presented by Solar Sports.

Viloria who won the IBF title with a cracking 11th round knockout over Ulises Solis at the Araneta Coliseum on April 19 defended his title  successfully against Mexico’s Jesus Iribe at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, scoring a twelfth round unanimous decision last August 29.
