Once considered a pound for pound fighter, Cristian Mijares (41-6-2, 18KOs) fell in a deep slump after getting knocked out by Vic Darchinyan in November 2008 and then losing back to back fights to Nehomar Cermeno in 2009. He is now back, winning a unanimous twelve round decision to capture the IBF super flyweight title from Juan Alberto "Topo" Rosas (35-6, 26KOs) in Torreon, Coahuila. Mijares boxed, he fought, and he showed that old fire as all three judges saw him as the clear winner. The scores were 115-113, 115-113 and 117-113 for Mijares.
