Carl Froch, 32, has told Allan Green that he is shooting his mouth off needlessly, and that the American contender can get in line for a shot at Froch's WBC super-middleweight title.
Allan knocked out Carlos De Leon Junior on the undercard of Froch's win over Jermain Taylor in April, Green, 29, has called for the Froch fight ever since. Froch laughed off the calls when speaking to thisisnottingham.co.uk.
“He certainly talks a good 'un,” said Carl. “But if he thinks he can come over to Nottingham and knock me out in six rounds, he's mental. He's just looking to put food on his plate. But it doesn't work like that. Why should I give him a shot? No one gave me a chance, did they? I had to fight an eliminator with Jean Pascal, who has shown just how tough he is by winning the [WBC] light-heavyweight title.
“Then I had to go to America to defend against Jermain Taylor," continued Froch. “One of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. It doesn't get any harder than that. American TV doesn't want a Froch v Green fight, so what's the point? He isn't a big enough draw, so it isn't going to happen. He's got a blemish on his record but I am unbeaten. I've seen him fight and I know how to beat him. The only way I'll fight him is if he becomes No.1 contender. Then it will be him who is flat on his back looking up at the ceiling at the Nottingham Arena.”
Froch is hoping to resume training this week; his next target is the undefeated American Andre Dirrell, 26, who is 18-0 in the pro ranks. Froch is desperate for an autumn contest, against Dirrell, or, failing that, a fight with the next best available contender; Carl desperately needs to keep busy in order to fulfil his unification dream.
“I have mandatory obligations but I also want to unify the division,” Froch claimed. “I wanted [Lucian] Bute because I was confident I could beat him. But he showed he didn't fancy the job by pricing himself out of the fight. He would have earned a million from fighting me – much more than he will get for a re-match with Librado Andrade. But now I'll be happy to give Dirrell a whupping instead."
