Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is friend and admirer of Gennady 'GGG' Golvkin but admitted that if their fight is confirmed, probably on September 17, they 'will lose that friendship.'
"If you come to take the fight up to the ring, you lose that friendship," said Canelo Alvarez during the ceremony in Mexico City where he received the Diamond belt of the World Boxing Council (WBC) for his unanimous decision win over Miguel Cotto last November 21.
A fight with Golovkin would not be until the fall.
"Golovkin is strong. He is a great fighter with a lot of power, a style that I like to fight, he comes forward, he likes fighting and it is sure to be a great fight," he said.
"I've always said that's why I am a professional boxer and I will fight with anyone. If I have to fight him, I'm ready to do it," added the middleweight champion of the WBC.
He admitted that he is willing to fight Cotto again, although he added that the representatives have not made any approach.
The Diamond belt, valued at $ 50,000 is at stake in big fights and it was won in the past by Bernard Hopkins and Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Leo Santa Cruz and Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez.
Alvarez will reappear in the ring on May 7, likely in Las Vegas but that has yet to be confirmed.
