ALTRINCHAM, ENGLAND – Pat Brown made a dominant start to his professional career, stopping the game Federico Javier Grandone in four rounds.
Brown topped the bill at Altrincham’s Planet Ice and was roared on by a huge crowd that had traveled just a few short miles from his home city in Manchester. The Paris Olympian piled on the pressure throughout and Grandone just couldn’t deal with the vicious attacks to his body.
The travelling Argentinian, now 7-5-2 (3 KOs), finally succumbed to the assaults in Round 4, with referee Darren Sarginson waving off the action after 55 seconds.
Brown, spurred on by his lively crowd, took the fight to Grandone from the opening bell in the hope of securing a debut stoppage victory. He flicked out a sharp jab behind his high guard and then planted in a left to the body that brought a wince from the Argentine. Grandone responded well and whacked in a left hook that got Brown's respect.
Brown, 25, took a moment to respond but then fired in two left hooks to the liver which again visibly hurt Grandone. Brown followed up his good work to the body in the first with yet another assault of Grandone’s midsection in Round 2. He pushed Grandone into the neutral corner and beat Grandone's body like it was a pig hanging in Paulie’s meat shop in Rocky.
Grandone, 33, gasped for air but was not deterred. He fired back wild hooks over the top of Brown’s bodywork. The beginning of the end started in the third, Brown again targeted the midsection and midway through the session you could see the damage Brown had done to the poor Argentine. Grandone’s ribs were bruised and his arms were red from the damage Brown had inflicted.
As the round came to a close, Grandone began to fall apart. The wild hooks were no longer coming back in hope of protecting his damaged ribs. Brown whipped in yet another shot to Grandone’s body at the sound of the bell that caused Grandone to yelp in pain and again there was an audible gasp as he struggled for breath.
The inevitable came early in the fourth. Brown pinned his opponent onto the ropes and let out another burst to the body and head. Brown piled in a left to the body, followed by a right to the head that caused Grandone to sink on to the ropes.
Referee Sarginson recognized that if it was not for the ropes than Grandone would have sunk to the floor and ruled the incident a knockdown. Grandone seemed thankful for the rest and took in one last gulp of air before the oncoming Brown was ushered on by Sarginson.
Brown delivered a final onslaught, yet another attack of the body, and as he turned his attention of to the head of Grandone, Sarginson stepped in. He saved the visitor from what would have inevitably been a brutal finish.
Brown’s huge support went into a frenzy as the contest was waved off. The Manchester local returned to his corner with a huge grin on his face after a dominant display in his professional debut.
Brown, 1-0 (1 KO), is going to be in some fan-friendly contest over the years.
