Dave Allen has been offered another "big fight", the heavyweight claimed today.
The popular heavyweight from Doncaster, England, was defeated by Filip Hrgovic last month at the home of his local soccer team Doncaster Rovers. The fight was a mismatch, with Allen being stopped inside three rounds.
Allen has fought Olympic medalists Hrgovic, Tony Yoka and Frazer Clarke, as well as world ranked contenders Dillian Whyte and Arslanbek Makhmudov, losing each time. Allen’s biggest win is either his fifth round stoppage of Johnny Fisher in 2025 or his third round finish of Lucas Browne in 2019.
Thankfully, Allen has been paid well of late, with his promoter Eddie Hearn claiming Allen has earned “well over £1m” in the last year for his contests with Fisher, Makhmudov and Hrgovic.
However, Allen continues to fight.
The 34-year-old revealed he would return against a “journeyman-like opponent” in a bout on June 20 in Rotherham, England. He also announced this week that he will fight again on July 25 at the Doncaster Dome. Should he win those two bouts, Allen will secure another big fight.
“I’ll do a six-rounder in July and Eddie [Hearn] has offered me a fight today on a massive card,” Allen told his Instagram followers. “Big fight as well, not as big as the Hrgovic one, but a big fight on a huge card. I’m going to go away and give it some thought, but yeah, I’ve got to win June and July first.
“It’s not a massive fight, but it’s a big fight on one of the biggest cards of the year. I said give me a bit of time. Probably box on June 20 and if I box well then I’ll probably do it.”
Allen, 25-9-2 (20 KOs), was then asked by one of his followers if he fancied competing 14 more times to hit the milestone of 50 professional contests.
“Depends what day it is, not even what day, depends what time of day it is,” Allen responded. “Some days I think I’m going to fight on forever, then some days I think I can’t be arsed with it. It’s not the sport, I do love boxing, I do enjoy doing it. It's getting harder for me, I’m getting older, I’ve been at it a long time.”
However, even if offered a ludicrous amount of money, Allen sees the new craze of bare-knuckle boxing as a step too far.
“No I wouldn’t do it,” he replied. “I think it would get in the way of training and managing [my fighters]. I get a lot of enjoyment out of that. I’m at a point in my life now where I'm not massively wealthy but I’m comfortable. So I’m quite happy at that point, I don’t want to be massively rich. So being happy and doing what I enjoy is more important, so I wouldn’t do it.”
