In a follow-up to a story first reported last August, rising super middleweight prospect Donovan George (15-0-1, 13KOs) was slammed with multiple felony sexual assault charges and was facing 6 to 30 years in prison if convicted. It was recently reported by the Chicago Sun Times that George pled guilty, only to the charge of aggravated battery, and began serving a six-month sentence on April 7. He was also given two-years probation.
According to published reports, he was facing eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, 15 counts of criminal sexual assault and four counts of sexual relations with a family member. These were claims that were alleged to have taken place between 1996 and 1998 when George was between 11 and 13-years-old. The alleged victim in question was between 5 and 8-years-old.
It was not George's first rumble with the law. In 2004 he was convicted on two counts of a felony hate crime. He was alleged to have yelled "gay-bashing remarks" at a couple of men and a physical altercation took place. He was sentenced to 18 months probation and had to perform community service.
George, 23, last fought on the undercard of David Diaz-Erik Morales last October at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. He was signed by Top Rank and was slowly being groomed to become a future star with his punching power and boyish good looks. He should be out by the end of the year and one would expect such a young fighter to resume where his promising career left off.
