Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Sergio Martinez both weighed in at 167 pounds with about a week to go before their Sept. 15 middleweight championship fight, according to William Boodhoo, an official with the World Boxing Council.
Chavez’s weight was certified Sept. 7 by Dr. Antonio Salazar, and Martinez’s weight was certified Sept. 7 by Roger Anderson, according to Boodhoo.
That puts both fighters at one pound less than the maximum of what they could be for the sanctioning body’s mandatory 7-day weigh-in, which requires fighters to be within 5 percent of what they must be for their bout (Chavez is the WBC’s titleholder at 160 pounds).
Both also came in within the 10 percent limit at their 30-day weigh-in last month, according to the WBC: Chavez’s weight was reported to the sanctioning body as being 176 pounds, while Martinez was 174 pounds.
