Callum Johnson has announced the date for his ring return.
The Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion is likely to defend his title against an opponent to be named when he climbs through the ropes again.
Johnson (16-0, 11 KOs) was last in action last September, live on Sky Sports, when he knocked out Willbeforce Shihepo inside nine rounds to claim the aforementioned belt.
And the Boston-born 31-year-old will return on April 15 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, on the same platform, as part of the undercard to Ricky Burns’ WBA, IBO and IBF super-lightweight world title unification showdown.
In winning the Commonwealth belt as a professional, the Joe Gallagher-trained fighter added to the Commonwealth Games gold medal he won in 2010.
Elsewhere on the card, Boxing Scene understands 2014 Team Scotland Commonwealth Games lightweight gold medallist Charlie Flynn will contest his first professional title as he takes a step up in his ninth fight.
Flynn was pencilled in to box Kofi Yates for what, at the time, was the vacant WBA International super-lightweight crown but injury kept Flynn out of it.
Meanwhile, Joe Ham is expected to feature as he looks to protect his unblemished ledger and it has been rumoured that Scott Cardle could defend his British lightweight belt.
In other news, MGM Marbella has been forced to rebrand to MTK Global.
After lengthy discussions with the MGM Casino and Resort Group in Las Vegas, the decision was made to change the name of the well-known Puerto Banus-based managerial outfit to avoid any confusion and to enable the two organisations to be differentiated.
And Kieran Smith, who produced an excellent first-round knockout on the last show at the SSE Hydro, will contest the vacant WBC International Silver super-welterweight title on a Lock Stock Promotions and Saltire Promotions co-promotion on March 3 at the Paisley Lagoon Centre.
The talented Smith described his contest as “the biggest step up of his career” but he says that it is one he is ready to take.
