Teofimo Lopez made a statement earlier this month, when he knocked out Richard Commey in two rounds to capture the IBF's lightweight world title at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Commey was viewed as Lopez's most dangerous and most experienced opponent to date, and there were some who picked the Ghana-born puncher to win.

Lopez, 22-years-old, raised his record to 15-0 with 12 wins by knockout.

The next step for Lopez is a potential unification with WBA, WBO world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko - possibly on a date in April of next year.

Lopez is expecting some very big things in 2020.

“I want to take over the sport and be a bigger and better role model to the kids out there,” Lopez told The Post. “I want to be an influencer, a motivational person for the youth. I want to impact the world in a positive way," Lopez said to the NY Post.

“Each and every one of us out there goes through things and it teaches us a life lesson. Whether they’re good or bad, you learn from each and every one of them. That’s one thing about me, I never regret anything. I think everything happens for a reason and I get to enjoy life through it all.”

“I think we have a great generation going on. This era has a lot of stardom and we have a lot of potential to make big fights happen. It’s not about who’s first or who’s second or who’s third on the pound-for-pound list. It’s about who’s doing the best. Many people think I’m doing it the right way and the best way. God gave me a gift inside the ring and it’s my job to give that gift back outside the ring and be a people’s champ. There’s going to be bigger and better things coming.”
