  • Riddle!! Somebody help me work this out

    Three men go buy a TV set for 30 pound. They pay 10 pound each. The guy behind the till says the TV is now in the sale for 25 pound. So the guy behind the till gives the guys 1 pound back each and pockets 2 pound for himself. So in total the guys have paid 9 pound EACH for the TV set.

    I ASK YOU, WHAT IS 3 TIMES '9' = '27'. WHAT DID THE SHOP OWNER POCKET = 2 QUID.

    £27+£2 = £29. WHY IS THIS 29 AS THE AMOUNT OF MONEY STARTED WITH WAS £30??

          Because those 2 pounds shouldn't add to the 27, they are part of the 27, the other 3 were given back.

            It's misdirection. After the refund you need to account for £27. 25 goes to the buy the tv and £2 that they pocket. It still adds up.

            Think of it more as:

            initial cost = discounted price + pocketed money + discount to each payee

            30 = 25 + 2 + 3
