  • Anybody here play Title Bout Championship Boxing?

    http://www.titleboutboxing.com/cgi-bin/page?home

"Title Bout Championship Boxing, abbreviated as TBCB, is a text-based boxing simulation that offers historical and fictional play, as well as the ability to forecast upcoming bouts. It is based on the popular 1979 tabletop game of the same name, which was created by Jim and Tom Trunzo."

I bought this game years ago (maybe 2008 or so). Recently re-installed it and started messing with it again, but there hasn't been an update in years. I'd love to get a current database together to put on fantasy fights, but it's hard to update it off your own back. Anybody else play this game?

I have a few threads with TBCB fights posted. Make sure your update pool link is up to date. Won't help a ton but might snag you a few k boxers if you do all weights.

I like it. It is basically just D&D combat set to boxing, so that's neat. I really only make active male HW games.

Same problem though, back in like 2013 you could put together a HW tourney using all the names people were talking about. Now, good luck finding current HWs. If they weren't even a prospect yet by 2015 then they probably are not in your game.

You can get a few more names from OOTP forums. They used to own TBCB and still have some fans modding. import from file is easy as, if you find them and need help I'm right here. The database update is bitchy though.

I know how to make a char but it feels like cheating and my own bias computerized if I decide the stats. What's the point of seeing what the computer says when you're the mug programming it?

It's still fun from time to time for retired fantasy fights and stuff like that, but, obscure is nearly as difficult as new, and, after a little while with the program you will have ran through every fantasy match up thinkable and with the fighters you've in mind.

TBCB would be really cool if it was kept up to date. It predicted Wilder-Fury I and II successfully and I posted them. Seriously, out of a 100 most of them came up draws the first, then out of 100 most came up KO for Fury the second, spooky, but my Fury and my Wilder are really 2012ish Fury-Wilder it's measuring so that's less exciting than it could be. Trainers and stuff like that are ****ty too. Even if you know full teams it's hard to get them together in the game unless they're from the 70s.

I have fighter photos and use **** tit shots for ring girl photos. I always planned on taking out generic white boxer and generic black boxer and replacing them with Little Mac and Afro Thunder, but never did get 'roud tuit.

Plenty to **** with, plenty to be interested in, but, there's a reason I never pushed anyone into the program. It is always out of date. When I downloaded it was out of date. Funny thing, the OOTP boys say the old one was better. never tried 2.5, it might be.

Nice one March, good to know there are still players out there. I also love the historical aspect of the game. I am surprised you don't do much updating yourself though! I couldn't play with out-of-date data! It would be great to get a group of dedicated players together to try to make updates to the database pool, because it doesn't seem like anyone else is bothered. I looked on the OOTP forums and the TBCB ones, and there's nobody at all making current data. There's also an issue with the incoming "Bridgerweight", don't see any way to add that to the game.

        Fair points all around.

In my free time I'll submit some builds for fighters.

I can't even say right off hand who I don't have, but, listing who we don't have is probably a good place to start. When I get a min I'll fire it up and look around, then compile a list of needed fighters then we can talk stats. If done right we might can get folks to speak to stats without needing to actually be into TBCB

I'm sure if I made a thread asking for a 1-20 or some such figure for say Yoka's (might have him, just an example) power, reflexes, etc I'll get responses. People love to voice their opinions on fighters so getting consensus stats should be easy work actually.

You're right, it's a game worth keeping alive. We're a big ass community. Ought to be us if no one else is unofficially updating it.

I made a lot of the current fighters myself. The problem I have, I then "Updated via Pool" and it has messed my Database up. I have duplicates of fighters, fighters like Rob Brant a 13 rating at Heavyweight, a lot of generally messed up stuff. I have 100 current Heavyweights that I mostly made myself. Haven't touched any of the other weight classes yet though, but am going to slowly work through my Save game and fix all the errors, get a good current database. It will take a long time no doubt, months of work.

                I reckon it's decent.

Right now on mine I have Fury over Joshua 3 out of 4 times. The three Tyson won are late round KOs and a UD, Joshua's win is a UD.

Here's the log for the last one I ran:

It will take a long time no doubt, months of work.
Well **** man, I'm a little confused as to what you're looking for.

you want to build an alt database the program can link to and update fighters like as if the stock one but actually updated frequently?

Just telling us about your project?

I found Schawrz, Romanov, and Zhang on OOTP, I ain't made **** yet myself.

I have plenty of duplicates. I don't think that's from making your own because I don't make any and the boys I have downloaded and imported are not doubled up on. For me, I get useless doubles. Like a Fury with a 0/0 rating across the board. Both in my retired fighters and active fighters. Trust, I'm not doing anything to end up with useless versions of Fury and Marciano, it just happens as I update. I manually delete them as I come across them. Not had an issue with the game deleting all versions of a character yet so it works for me.

Pretty sure I have like five Whytes.

Lol, the game is fun bro. I enjoy it to no end. I think it's the OCD in me, wants to have "current versions" of all fighters. I am not too savvy with the update system like I said, whenever I touch it I end up with random fighters in random places! How do you update yourself? I changed the "Online database server" link to tbdata.pisd.co.uk, that's all I've done so far. Is there any more I can do to make it better? I probably play the game all wrong, but it is how I enjoy it ya know? At the minute my HW division consists of a 12 Tyson Fury, then Wilder, AJ and Usyk all at 9. Whyte and Andy Ruiz at 8, Yoka, Wallin, Parker, Ortiz, Joyce, Hunter, Hrgovic and Chisora all at 7s.

I haven't touched the other divisions so far. I still have the likes of Floyd (JLW), B-Hop (MW), Erik Morales (FW) and Paul Williams (WW) on the active rosters lol. It is weird, some of the records are from pretty recent (got a JMW Canelo), but then some seem they haven't been touched since before 2010. Should I be updating/erasing fighters via my Save Games, or should I look to remove/update them from my game files? The export/import utility seems a little glitchy to me too and I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. Struggle to move export fighters and move them between my pc and laptop for example.
