I had a Gunnery Sergeant in the Marines that used to do 1000 a day, he was OCD about it, hed literally tally it into an old green notebook.

I dont take Rip Chudd as a troll or jokester, I think he was giving you a serious answer. As I quoted him I knew an ordinary guy in his late 40's that used to do 1000 a day for years. But personally IMO to much of anything isn't good for you. If you can do 1000 push-ups thats a great feat but if you do it everyday there is no gains. What I like to do is during my roadwork with my boys we stop and push every half mile. I usually do about 25-30 each stop and my 13yo does 15, my 9yo does 10, & 10yo does 12. We usually run about 4-5miles so you can do the math. I think its beneficial because it raises the heart rate briefly.

Yeah I wasn't joking around, when I was a teen and heard about Walter Payton doing them I came up with my own way to do 1000 a day, and as I said it's quite easy.

Very easy way of doing it if you have time would be to get a watch or have a clock nearby and at the start of a minute do 10 and rest until the next minute starts. Do that for 50 minutes straight and you already have done 500. I would do this as a teen and rest for 10 minutes after the initial 500 then I would do them for 50 minutes again and that would be 1000

I'd do three days a week and two days a week the next week.

So in a period of 14 days you did 5 times. In one month around 11 times.

That gives your body some rest to actually heal the muscle, make it grow etc.

I think something between 150 and 200 should be enough each day. Maybe 300 if you find 150/200 not enough.

You can separate them into 10, then 20, then 30, and so on.

You start easier you know? then if you feel you can do more then start progressing into more each week.

Don't do only one kind of push ups, there are at least three kind of push ups that are benefical. You can also do one handed once you dominate the technique.

You would need to make also pull ups. You can make with two chairs and one stick if you don't have where to do them.

And do some squats too. At least 100 squats. With weight if you can. Some jumps. Run a bit too.

Then you have abs and lower back exercises. And a few months later you'd be strong and hot.

I used to do one hundred a day. Then I found the beauty of pyramids and downs. Start at 20 down. You'll do 20 sets starting with 20 working your way down to one. Don't knock until youve tried it. It comes out to 210 push-ups total. Good workout and you will feel the soreness. Also throw in the Down's with bars every now and then for deeper push-ups.
