  • Head guard with nose bar

Right so I had a operation on my nose because I basically could not breathe from boxing.

Back in full training now and itching to get back sparring how much protection does the nose bar actually give you?

I imaging it would be on certain angles but nothing extreme , i'Ve just ordered a cheap one £35 just to see if its worth getting a pricey one. I don't think the cheaper ones will be as secure though

I have the old model everlast one and i use it on a regular basis. You sacrifice some vision for a little more protection. You really don't get hit on the nose because of it, what can happen though is if your partner lands a straight punch right on the nose bar itself it might smash into your nose, but that doesn't happen that often.

The one i have is one size fits all, and i have a massive head but it still moves a little when i get hit hard.

I'll buy a rival headgear with a nose bar soon, they look pretty nice and definitely not as big as the everlast one i have.

It's a bit risky as I'm suppose to wait 18 month before I can take any contact. I'm bait worried about a uppercut pushing up against my nose also

The new Cleto Reyes redesigned one is 10X better and one of the best you can buy. I sparred with one about a month ago and liked it so much I bought one.

They come with a nylon bar now, so they are super light. They also moved the position of the face bar and it is way better.

Really well made too, solid construction.

I've used the winning fg-5000 one before and it's pretty legit, not enough that I would drop that much dough on it though. I use the fg-2900, I prefer that to the 5000, I can see alot more. I like to use the completely open competition headgears too, even for sparring. I enjoy the increased vision and how lightweight they are.

                  I've never liked them!

If you don't want to be hit, step your defensive game up or don't box at all!

I've worn one a few times when we're getting ready for little tourneys and I can only wear them for about a round or two then I just take the shit off and wear the regular one. I feel handicapped when I wear those nose protecting pieces of junk.

It will also give you a false sense of security and cause you to slack during training cause you know if a hard shot does get in, your partner will most likely hurt his hand.

I do not recommend you using them type of headgear, but to each his own.

I agree with you that it sucks, but I think the OP has a legitimate reason to use it due to his surgery.
