  • 23 too old for amateur boxing?

I've had some training when i was younger and know how to throw some combinations and my cardio is...average.

Basically I want to have a few amateur bouts this year or next. Am I too old to do it?

I'm having trouble finding a decent boxing gym, do most amateurs get 1 to 1 training or what?

Not too old at all. Sergio Martinez started boxing at 19 or 20. Antonio Tarver started at 22 I think.

Your to old to get beat up by 17 year old kids though!!! At 23 you need to learn what real boxers learn between 10 and 19 so that puts you ready at 32.
Plus your learning abilities at 23 will be much slower than a 10 year olds!

Go to a gym, train for condition then spar with some guy who is a medicore talent then evaluate yourself. You don't play boxing, to many serious consequences! Ray.

I started at 28, haha, so I'd say, No. It's not too late. Like ray said, get in there and spar and see if it's something you want to take serious. If not, then just use it as a tool to stay in shape. Good Luck.

So you are not a "real" boxer if you don't start young?

"Plus your learning abilities at 23 will be much slower than a 10 year olds" ???

You do not understand development if you think a 10 year old can learn better than a 23 year old. At 23 you have years of athletic experience, full coordination and muscle development. Plus you are more experienced and mentally stronger at age 23 compared to age 10.

I agree starting boxing early is best but to say that you learn more at an early age is not right

Also you are disrespecting all the successful boxers (some of who became world champions) who started late with your post.

                    No, it is not late.

I guess the only problem is psychology, because for you a while you will get beaten by much younger guys. If this is not a problem for you, and you persevere, success will come
