guys like Amir Khan whos around 5'10-5'11 started his career off at 135 now is at 140. and even lamont peterson is pretty big yet weight so light. some guys are just freaks of nature and are just born tall and light (paul williams,thomas hearns at 147). but how do they get like this? do they do weights?is it more plyometrics? myself personally am trying to drop down in weight. im 5'11 and weigh 155. with body fat % around 13-14%. i wanna compete at 141 weight class for golden gloves. just curious to how these pros are able to be that big

How are pro boxers so big, yet weight so light?

Their muscle definition makes them appear as they are big, + camera adds weight. And its just our perception of them...
Its their cut, their build...
Look at pictures of fans with athletes, amateur pictures...Many of them do not appear that big.
For instance, I met Dan Henderson
Guy is listed 5'11" 200lb, looks big on TV but when I met him I couldnt believe it...He was not all that big at all.
Went to a couple of NBA games, once set very close to the bench, some ball players appear pretty big on camera but I was shocked at how skinny these guys looked in person.
I bet if you met someone like Manny P in person you'd think his little Filipino tito...But on TV he looks like a mini Arnold.

A guy who fights at 147 is not a 147lb man. Weight cutting, weigh in, etc. Hence, why they seem so big.
As far as build goes, super-intensive training will do that. When I train for competition (or with the same dedication), my body becomes far more developed than normal, just from the insane training. I'm not naturally anything like that. You can see how soft most pro's look shortly after they retire. Casual exercise and a fight camp are two wildly different things.

From personal experience, and I weigh-in on the day of a fight, I have woken up 7lbs over, had some fruit only for breakfast and a swig of water, drain out until weigh-in about 2pm and make weight by about 2lbs. This is not advised but achievable, with manipulation. I ate a large pasta and beef meal, sugary drink and was 10lbs over what I weighed before the fight.

I was your (ts) height and walk around weight. I fought pro at 147-154lbs and tried to cut down to 142lbs for a televised fight. Dropping the last few lbs killed me man. My immune system got weak, caught a lung infection and fought with that ailment. It happened like that a few times in the ams like that, cutting weight and ending up sick for the fight. With this fight I had fought the month before at 154 and dropped the weight to 142 in under 30 days. I'm just telling you it has it's risks.
You're probably wondering about the 142lb limit. The guy was a 140 fighter but I set a catch weight of 142lbs because I knew 140lbs was nearly impossible. I was doing that way before Paqciauo............Rockin'

I agree it has many risks and I don't fight anything but my normal weight anymore. Hence why I'm glad Cotto is fight Floyd at Light-Middleweight, will be stronger and fitter. But for me and this is just me, I can loose the weight by literally eating less than I usually do. I drink so much water that it weighs so much in me so if I stop drinking at 2pm the day before and up to weigh-in (i literally have a swig in the morning), I can drop it. Individuals vary of course and it's not good for you in the ring!
