  • Julio cesar Chavez training routine

Does anybody know what julio cesar Chavez snr training routine was in his prime? I have been searching high and low but can't seem to find much, he started boxing at 16 and turned pro at 17 and went something like 90 fights undefeated and knocked out over 70 of them opponents so how did he get so good and what was his training routine? Also I noticed he never really threw his right hand straight it always had abut off a bend in his arm punching on a downwards motion.... Any thoughts on why that was?

      I saw a 60 second film

of Chavez training for the delayhoya fight. Very old school. He also used very light dumbbells for very high reps. I mean like 2.5 pounds.

you would burn out in the gym before your 25th birthday

        nobody spars like that

maybe for one week he might have some days where he went 10-12 rounds

but over the course of a true training camp for championship fight (8-12 weeks. at least four weeks of sparring.) he would never keep that pace up

he'd get cut, busted up, and worn out if he wasn't sparring complete punching bags

that would be hundreds of rounds of sparring for each fight

I also watched a clip on youtube of them saying he sparred 6 days a week for 10 rounds, so that it would make up for his loss of amatuer experience. What do you guys think about sparring that often and if you think it is logical to spar that often? His motives was "learn on the job"....
