  • how do these boxers last 12 rounds?

I have been sparring for 2 months now. At first I would barely do 2 rounds. After I started working on my weaknesses (stamina, stronger legs, better defense, etc), I was able to top in off with 3 rounds. Now I feel like I am in the best shape of my life, but I can only do 4 rounds max. I get so drained after that, I cant imagine myself doing more than 4. How do these boxers condition themselves for something like that?

Can somebody who can last as long share your conditioning routine. Thanks

The reason I didnt go far in boxing..........well I wouldnt have got far anyway, but the reason I kinda stopped was this very reason.

I can **** hard for 2 or 3 rounds......and then Im finished, Im dead tired I loose focus.

and as much as I wanted to learn the art, and I did learn..........I never had the drive and dedication to do the road work and the cardio thats needed for boxing.....I just hate it.....cant do it

I am willing to commit and give it a try. What should be my ultimate goal? How many miles? Time limit?

Honestly, and I speak from experience here, lots of running will prepare you for a marathon but not a long fight.

Sparring will build you for fighting, the running might help out abit but you need to spar alot if you want to be able to go more rounds.

When I turned pro my trainer, after we agreed on the pro game, in our first session had me spar 6 or 8 rounds. I usually had always sparred 3 or 4 at the most as an amatuer. I did have a 5 round bout in the amatuers but they were only 2 minute rounds. I was able to finish the rounds and was tired as hell. Then we started the floor work and it was 6 more on the heavy bag, then 4 on the speed bag, a couple on the double ended bag and then his killer cals to finish up. Needless to say when the session was over I was dog dead tired. I went home sore, went to bed, woke up the next morning more sore then I had ever been. My muscles were so tight and it hurt just to walk around. I went to work for a day shift and went back that night to do it all over again. For about 4 weeks I hurt like this every day. Then just instantly it seemed to happen I show up on monday to work out having rested the week end and suddenly I was just doing it with out being crazy tired or sore. I mean I still fought the fatigue in my muscles during the session but they were just responding to whatever I needed them to do. Another few weeks and it became routine. Don't tell but I didn't do much roadwork at all. I sparred and busted my ass at the gym and it just happened, to the point of doing 8 rounds and going 8 rounds and going home feeling like it was an average workout.

If you want to run marathons then run Forrest run. If you want to fight in longer fights then spar, spar, spar and bust your ass on the floor work. You get it in the gym..............Rockin'

                I work my way down.

like ill do so many rounds on the bag all out till im beat to hell and start shadow boxing with the 16's on for another so many rounds till im beat to hell and then ill do like 1-2 rounds with out gloves till im beat to hell.

to improve i just add a round to the heavy bag and keep the rest the same then ill add a round to shadow boxing with 16's keeping the rest the same then ill add a round to the heavy bag keeping the rest the same then ill add a round to shadowboxing with 16's keeping the rest the same ect ect....I allways keep the rounds shadow boxing with out gloves at 1-2 these rounds are more so speed oriented for me but because there is less weight one can continue with the rounds with more ease so it also helps with stamina.

cardio helps amazingly at......TRAINING.....it definatly helps a bit in the ring but even more then that it helps you train longer and harder with out getting to the point that dont feel like moving any more and even if you get to that point you can just take a 5 min break and your good to go again. if your goal is to spend 2+ hours at the gym cardio is a must and your going to need to spend that time if you want to do 12 round matches.

Don't be a fool man! The kid asked how they do it, and I asked the same question when I began boxing. He's not wondering why he can't do it but rather what these guys do to be able to last as long as they do in bouts. It's a valid question...........Rockin'
