  • what happened to everlast?

    hello guys,

i remember about 15-20 years ago when everlast was the main brand that competed with grant, cleto, winning but now experienced boxers would rather buy ringside or maybe even title and avoid everlast at all cost. (except for clothing, they make nice jackets)

what happened to this brand? i personally have bad experience with them just asking around other boxers from other gym, one person bought the double eva sauna suit and it ripped after about 2 days of just normal running.

i have heard the soles on the shoe have came off and dont get me started on their bags. i went to marshall a few days ago with my girlfriend and saw punch mitts where there were 3 big loops to fit your finger around. wow really?

this brand used to be the king of boxing i dont know what happened.

we see shows like the contender or the new tv series lights out and they all have everlast gear on, its pretty obvious everlast has the money to buy these guys out.

what i dont understand is why some pros use everlast gloves, i tried the pro series on it was good quality but if i was a pro (believe me im not) i would rather wear grant or reyes.

seriously, this label is becoming a disgrace to boxing, cheap quality brand who is more into profit than supporting the sport. i understand that boxing is a poor mans sport and they make affordable gear, but seriously cant they atleast make it to average quality instead of the sh.it they make?

They make low quality stuff for the masses who do their boxing for fittness classes and are not serious about boxing at all.

Also, I know their bags arent great but they arent that bad either? I have a everlast double end bag and recently bought one of their 5 ft heavy bags. I live in Perth aus so I dont have many choices.

But yes I do agree, their gloves are crap, the pair I bought for a 100 bucks lasted 3 months while my reyes have lasted just on year now and only cost me 200 by the time they got to me.

Rav3n where did you get your reyes gloves from, I am from Melbourne Australia and like you hard to get decent stuff here, I have an everlast pro 4 ft bag which is not bad, I have a pair of sting gloves which I got from rebel, these are better than the everlast, but I think next time I will get reyes or grant. did you get your gloves locally or from overseas?

Hi mate, yes it is pretty sad the quality/price of boxing gear in aus.

I got my Reyes off ebay, it is a mexican company called GRUPO HAMD on ebay (link: http://myworld.ebay.com.au/grupo_ham...MEFSX:SELLERID).
I got the black 16oz Cleto Reyes boxing pro training gloves with velcro, they take a little bit to break in but after that they are beautiful gloves to use, they were around 186 delivered to my door.

You can buy them in sydney for 300+ but I bought them off the mexican company, np at all.

Grants may cost a little more Im pretty sure, but hell if you go grants might as well just get winnings, lol.

        I hope that helps.

Thanks Rav3n I will check that EBAY store yeah a place in Sydney can get the ones I want for 285, but they are around 130 or so in the US, so will see if I can buy and get them shipped. Yeah the everlast are no good at all, my mate got the everlast 2 months ago I got the stings, my sting are still fine, his everlast have fallen to pieces literally. Hard to get decent boxing gear here in Oz. Thanks for the advice.

Np mate, about the Reyes gloves though, some people say the ones bought from the US may be different from the ones in Mexico (idk myself since I got the ones from mexico).

Ja, everlast is pretty crappy, spent $100 on leather gloves and the inner lining of the glove busted and all the foam started coming out after 3 months, I would of understood if they were the cheap $30 ones.

I will never buy everlast gloves again, lol.

Thanks for that, I checked that EBAY store they dont have any for sale currently, will keep my eyes open, they are just way too overpriced here, 285 from this place in Sydney, thats a crazy price

Not sure whats going on with everlast, most people I know that have had them would never touch them again. Supatuff here in OZ make a good glove too, but obviously not as good as the reyes.

Your being WAY to hard on Everlast. The truth is what another poster said, they have catered their cheaper stuff to the masses for boxing "fitness". It's easier to sell a pair of $29 gloves than sell a $100 pair of gloves to someone who isn't taking the sport that seriously.

I think Everlast is still very good, you just have to buy their high end stuff and it's not cheap compared to Ringside or Title (which I think is the best **** for your buck).

Everlast is still used in a lot of pro fights and it's considered a boxers glove, not everyone wants to fight with Cleto Reyes or Grants.

Everlast makes good bags, apparel and good HIGH end gloves but you have to spend about 15-20% more for about the same quality stuff than you would ringside or Title and the average guy isn't willing to do that.

Every piece of everlast apparel I owned has started to come apart waaayyy to fast....seams come apart, etc. I blame their low-end gloves for my knuckle problems too...their gloves all seem to be cut mad short, so when I make a fist the inside of the glove grinds on my knuckles (and the inside of those cheap gloves is like cardboard. Idk if it's my hands or just the brand, but they all seem to make you punch with your finger knuckles as well.

And their high-end stuff is extremely over priced. Why would I pay 200 bucks for a pair of protex gloves when I could get winnings for a comparable price?

I think Everlast just makes most of their money through either very high-end sales (gym equipment/high-end pro gear) or very low end stuff (fitness gloves, etc.)....us broke-ass amateur fighters are the ones they don't got **** for.
