Why can't amateur boxers have a beard

i remember checking out some jr olympic stuff about 2 years ago and they said you can't have a beard only a "thin mustache". Why aren't beards allowed??

As the beard has no contact with gloves I can only imagine it has something to do with Headgaurds??

yupp its true... i remember in the weight in's....a friend used to let it grow and say he was a badass with it lol.... the officials make u shave b4 you step on the scale lol....

beards soften blows? not that they dont, they do, but i dont know if thats the reason.

it also covers up bruising and swelling really well so some one could come into a fight with a horribly bruised jaw but no one knows because of the beard.

they just want to see it clearly when you have a cut or if you were punched in the face...

Mmm, from what I've heard beards increase your risk of cuts with the bonus friction and all.

I was told to shave my beard off recently.. lol, it wasnt even heavy, just a minor bit under the chin

the reason is because when u get in a clinch, it could scratch ur opponent and cause a cut or a little rash or something

Usa boxing are secretley in business with gillette for a quarter of all their proffitts

I had to and the USA boxing official said it was because people could get cut from it. I don's really see how but thats what he said.

they make you shave because they gotta see if and when you get cut. plain and simple. you cant wear red mouthguards either. they dont do that to piss you off its all about safety
