  • What ounce gloves do you spar with?

We use 14oz. in my gym and a friend of mine wanted to go all out for the last round of our 4 round sparring session and he was jsut jabbing and moving, inviting me to throw.. He threw a jab, I moved back and threw a huge right over the top that put him down and broke his nose.

I feel guilty since he has a fight soon (4 weeks), but he insisted we **** it out.

Coach says we're going to 18.oz from now on.

Dude also got a roasting for wanting to exchange at 100% 4 weeks before a fight.

What size do you guys use?

thats why you wear headgear with nose protection before a fight if you want to get sparring sessions in without having to miss the fight due to injury

also if you hit him on the nose with an 18 oz glove itll still break so i dont know whats that about. use different headgear thats the best solution

we use 16 oz gloves. sometimes 10 oz amateur gloves to get used to them cause thats what you fight with. the padding is great and very soft so theyre pretty good for sparring every once in a while

Hes a good kid, but he was all ****y thinking he could KO me if we went at 100% for one round. I didn't mean to blast him though. Hence the guilt.

The club I got to has it mandatory that everyone uses 16 oz gloves for sparring and we have great headgear that defends our facial features quite well so no worry there.

Also don't feel guilty about mashing your friends face, he wanted to go 100% and you gave him 100%, you simply gave him what he wanted and sadly he found out it was'nt what he really wanted

14-16 oz, no lower than that. 12 Oz can easily mash your face up after a couple of rounds in there. Id recommend probably 16 oz though, 14 oz isn't to bad either.

Coach shouldn't have been letting you guys go at 100% ever, but especially when someone is fighting relatively soon. It's his and you guys' fault, not the gloves.

I use 18's if I'm sparring with someone smaller or really new, 16 with any 'challenging' opponent.

18oz. I'm a heavyweight, most heavyweights use at least 18oz.

Anything more than 18oz seems like bad practice in my opinion, due to the oversized "shield" you can create false defense.
