It depends where they are from. Alot of N Armerican fighters have slim legs because they tend to be the kind that move around more and box on the outside. Plus a boxer has a ripped (leaner muscles look bigger) and well developed torso and shoulders (for obvious reasons) and this makes their legs in comparison very small. Plus they don't grow up playing footy. They also wear long shorts, and you will notice that they don't have footballers calves, but often do have footballers quads and hamstrings. B-Hop revealed huge quads and hamstrings when warming up to beat up Pavlik.
However, your assumption is not correct. I've noticed European fighters from Calslappy to Naz have humongous legs because their style tends to be more planted down and they grow up playing football. S American fighters don't have bad legs either. Manny Steward said Naz got his power from his 'soccer legs' and the Prince's younger brother Ali was a top amateur prospect but a decent footballer too that played for Sheffield United. Naz didn't get in club academies (for obvious reasons) but he probably played alot and was handy in charity games celebrating goals with his summersaults!
And finally, boxers in general tend to be lean anyway. It isn't just their 'chicken' legs, they have the chicken build in general. I look bigger in my fight pics and vids then I do normally when I put on my DKNY, Versace and Boss clothes on. I wear the slim fit **** coz I look slick in it with ma shoulders poppin out of the lean frame. A ripped torso and arms looks bigger than it is because it is sick! I have lean pecs and shoulders and they look huge but in reality they are smaller than when I didn't train full time or if I started lifting weights like Eastern bloc robotic fighters. All them robot guys that were behind the Berlin Wall that now fight in Germany have tree trunk legs
I'm new here, I always wondered by boxer have skinny legs.
I always thought that bigger legs helped you generate more force in your punches.
There's several factors for this. A) The type of conditioning for a boxer is different from a wrestler. Wrestling requires more muscles to work. Wrestlers are constantly having to push-pull with all their might.
B) Let's see, most boxers are black and latinos(Indian descent), those two ethnic groups are generally not built w/ thick calves.
its really just based on 2 things. Training preference, genetics. i developed big thighs from doing martial arts when i was younger and i do a lot of medium weight high rep lunges and squats and such for my conditioning so it helped too. i prefer working on the legs because i feel a huge difference in how i prefer to punch and the style that i like to fight with.
im usually a mover in the ring (depends who im fighting) so my legs are pretty slim
my mate though is more of a stand up and fight guy, his legs are thick as hell and muscly
im a mover too and i got thick legs. im the type that likes to do it all so that i dont feel obligated to fight a certain way. ill fight on the outside slipping and dodging and dancing and throwing counters. if by chance he is faster then me ill fight on the inside throwing uppercuts and setting things up from the inside and with a little step back throw quick 212 and step to bring up the guard and slip inward and throw body shots. if he has an elusive style ill cut off and push up to the ropes and fight on the inside and shuffle to make angles. i think being able to adjust one's style according to what would make the opponent feel most uncomfortable is a huge advantage. pull them out of their element.
