Why do people put such a huge emphasis on resume today, especially when most boxers don't have the power to pick their opponents? It's not Demetrius Andrade or Charlo's fault that so called p4p guys won't get in the ring with them. Why can't you just recognize talent when you see it?

Boy you are trolling your ass off...This has to be a poster trying to troll black boxers...to obvious........
Who you beat is what matters, skills only take you so far..easy to look great against less comp..
When you step is with others with equal or better skills then you see the difference, how do you adjust against people with high IQ's?

Not trolling. Of course who you beat matters. But still, if you know the sport, you can recognize fighters' flaws even against weaker comp where they dominate.

I don't disagree that you need to beat elite fighters to be on the p4p list, but my problem is when you automatically jump to "oh he's a bum who has he beat" without recognizing the skillset.

For example, Canelo can fight whoever he wants and everyone wants to fight him because he is boxing's biggest draw.
Another factor is someone like Paulie Malignaggi vs someone like Demetrius Andrade. When Paulie won a belt at 147, he had guys lined up to fight him because they felt like he was beatable.
That's not a knock on Paulie because he was a tremendous overachiever, however Adrien Broner went after him for a reason.
Compare that with someone like Demetrius Andrade who also has a belt. He doesn't have guys lining up to fight him because he's a threat. So instead of trying to take his belt they say "who has he fought?" and "nobody recognizes the WBO belt" or "he's not a draw".
Paulie wasn't a PPV draw either but he got plenty of opportunities against top guys because they thought he was good but beatable.

We constantly see fighters that look good and then fail to live up to the hype when they step up.Last edited by Robbie Barrett; 12-30-2020, 01:37 PM.

Yes the talent is there when you're beating bums but is the dog there when you fighting tougher competition?
All that talent without dog means nothing

And I'm not saying you have to put Andrade in Charlo in your top 10 p4p list, that's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying you can recognize that they have the potential to be without people coming back at you with the "oh who has he fought" stuff.

If you have what appears to be A-level talent and the proven A-level talents won't fight you, then all you can do is dominate C and hopefully B-level talent until you get a shot.
In the meantime, it's not really fair to call someone a bum while they are simply dominating the best available competition. You mentioned that skills only take you so far and I would add that the "who has he fought?" or "he's not a draw" excuses have their limits too.Last edited by whollisboxing; 12-30-2020, 01:42 PM.
