  • Corner Retirement...What Round Is Official?

    Quick question:

Fighter can not come out for fifth round - he retires in the corner - is that ruled a 4th round TKO or a 5th round TKO?

I know it sounds like a silly question, but on fight nights when we have betting pools (a pool for what round fight will end), we always seem to argue about who should get the money. Some say those holding round 4 should get it, others say those with 5 because the fight did go 4 complete and round five was essentially now on the clock.

If he cant come out for round 5, then it's a round 5 stoppage seeing as round 4 has already been completed.

          It's a 4rth round stoppage....FFS. The fifth round hasn't even begun yet.

          Fourth round TKO.

4th round tko or rtd however the ref feels like calling it.

5th round never took place so it can never be a 5th _______

if the ref calls it during the 1 minute rest period between rounds, its a tko 4. If the bell signals round 5 has started and then its waved off, its a tko 5.

It all comes down to whether or not the bell rang to signify round 5 has begun

(checks lomas boxrec) end between rounds it would appear the round it followed is the one recorded. I guess it's kind of looking at it like, what round was the punishment caused which lead to stopping the fight, in terms of the specific 1 minute break.

If the fighter retires in the corner it's not a TKO it's an RTD.
See Vitali Klitschko vs Sam Peter ... Peter didn't come out for the 9th round, retired in the corner between rounds 8 and 9. It was ruled as a Round 8 RTD.

If you bet on Floyd ko rounds 1-4 and conor doesn't come out for round 5, you win your bet, regardless on whether officially its a RTD which means retired , bookies recognise it as a stoppage win nevertheless and you win your bet.
